Throughout my childhood, I attended public K-12 schools and later received a BA from the University of Arizona.</h3>While attending grad school in New York, I was inspired to get involved in my community and make our world a better place. I knew I needed to act, so I left my job as a teaching assistant and my life in New York and moved back to Arizona.I continued my education and earned a Master’s in Education from Arizona State University and began teaching kindergarten and 2nd grade in a Title I school. In 2010, I was named as my school’s Teacher of the Year.

My vision for our state is an Arizona where education is key, our water future is secure, voting is a right, housing is affordable, citizens are safe from gun violence, and reproductive health care is safe and accessible.

Now is the time for action on this crisis.I was proud to have worked across the aisle to deliver solutions for the Rio Verde Foothills community, whose source of water was threatened and taps ran dry. I worked tirelessly with my Republican colleagues and Governor Katie Hobbs to address this crisis, and I am committed to continuing these efforts to find a long-term solution to our water future together.

Our Water Future is Secure

Extremism is running rampant, and it's out of step with voters' priorities. It's imperative that we protect access to the ballot box, including protecting longstanding rights like voting by mail and early voting. All voters in Arizona have a right to cast their ballot securely and easily. We need to make sure that right is protected with action in the legislature.I was honored to be chosen as the House member for the Governor’s Bipartisan Voting Task Force in my first term as a legislator. Now more than ever, I am committed to combatting extremism and safeguarding our elections to ensure Arizonans are able to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Voting is a Right

<h3>Gun violence has torn apart families, neighborhoods, and school communities for decades here in Arizona.</h3>It has touched countless lives – leaving an impact that lasts a lifetime. As someone who has been directly impacted by a violent act involving a gun – this fight is personal.&nbsp;I believe in the fundamental truth that the Second Amendment and responsible gun ownership can coexist, with common sense gun violence prevention measures in place so that weapons don’t fall into the wrong hands.&nbsp;<img src="https://run.imgix.net/bfa6c63d-1ac2-4180-9aff-1cc678c29dee/d8a7577a-e268-409b-aa12-4bb4aad5b76f/1bb4f5fe-f25c-4387-bef1-4fe0ec84e911.webp?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4096%2C2730&amp;w=1500" alt="" title="" caption="Credit Gage Skidmore" align="left" alignwidth="40" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">Credit Gage Skidmore<ul><li>We must close dangerous loopholes in our system that allow criminals to purchase firearms.</li><li>We also must ensure that safe storage laws are in place so that our young people can’t get their hands on dangerous weapons in the household.</li><li>And finally, we must prevent tragic school shootings from terrorizing our community.&nbsp;</li></ul>That's why I’ve drafted legislation of my own to counter this crisis and keep young people safer. My bill to remove school blueprints and floorplans from public record had broad bipartisan support. This policy would have made it more difficult for potential school shooters to navigate campus, saving lives.&nbsp;We also need to support our first responders, who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to help keep our communities safe and secure. I have built strong relationships with our local public safety leaders, including Chiefs of Police and Fire. Additionally, I strongly support ensuring that cities, towns, and municipalities have the resources they need to deliver key services and appropriately staff public safety departments.&nbsp;You can always count on me to work to ensure the safety of our children and our community.

Citizens are Safe from Gun Violence

V Jackson overruled fifty years of precedent, guaranteeing women and families the right to choose, Arizona’s 15-week abortion ban became the law of the land. In this session alone, Republicans have advanced countless pieces of legislation that would jail women and doctors for performing abortions and would threaten innovative and life-saving healthcare like in-vitro fertilization. Restrictions on abortion are responsible for more than $2 million in economic losses per year, and majority lawmakers are ensuring that women and families suffer by allowing the government to control personal healthcare decisions.&nbsp;Abortion and reproductive freedom are essential parts of healthcare. The freedom to choose when, whether, and how to grow your family should be accessible to all Arizonans. That’s why I’ve spent years fighting for women’s issues through my advocacy with the National Organization for Women, and why I believe we must reverse the harmful 15-week ban on abortion and restore reproductive freedom in our state.

<h2>&nbsp;It was early in my teaching career when part of my classroom ceiling collapsed over a rug full of kindergarteners. I jumped up to shield the children.&nbsp; Luckily, I was the only one hurt.</h2><h3>Though I was focused on staying calm for my students, I felt scared and appalled. I was also angry.</h3>In a state with our resources, this shouldn’t happen. The legislature is tasked with taking care of our schools, and they are not doing their job. You can count on me to take our schools and their needs seriously because I know what happens when our state government does not invest in our public schools.After a career as an elementary school teacher in the Pendergast Elementary School District, I turned to community organizing, knowing something needs to change so that every Arizonan gets the chance to succeed. I have spent the last several years as a leader in our community by working with local advocacy groups focused on public education, voting rights, gun violence prevention, and equality for all.&nbsp;My career now is centered around helping citizens make their voices heard in local government through my work as a Community Outreach Director with the nonpartisan organization Civic Engagement Beyond Voting. I spent most of my career as an elementary school teacher right here in Phoenix. The state of Arizona’s public school system isn’t providing our children with everything they need to succeed. I knew I had to get involved when part of my ceiling collapsed over a rug full of kindergarteners.And that's why I ran the State House—to change the state of education and protect our students.
